Suggestions Appreciated

Over the weekend Trent decided to tear down another wall. This one was the wall that separated our playroom and a hallway. It really is much nicer and much bigger. The kids have actually played down there a lot more with the wall being gone. I think they are able to maneuver their four wheelers and riding toys better with the extra space.

So, this is where I need help. Now that it is open and semi connected with the rest of the basement I need help on colors. Originally, I was going to do some type of burnt orange and a dusky blue/gray. But now that it isn't enclosed in a room I am hesitant to do such bold, drastic colors. I am thinking a light charcoal color for the main walls and then one accent wall with a more "interesting" color. We are going to build a climbing wall with the gray holdings you see above. I was thinking that wall could be the accent wall. And the rest of the decor would be metal industrial looking shelves and such. Trent and I are pretty conservative when it comes to decorating and colors, but it is a playroom, so I am trying to branch out. Let me know what you think and if you have any ideas for cute colors for the walls and decor. I am VERY open to suggestions.

Sorry, I don't have anything either... except I think that's awesome that you're going to have a climbing wall!

I don't know if this is what you are looking for but my brother-in-law did a fun cute thing with their kids play room. They painted the walls like you where out side, green rolling hills blue sky...you get the idea and then they put up swinging monkey bars from the ceiling along with a climbing rope. They padded the floor pretty well too! With a climbing wall that would be awesome! One day when we have our own house again we would like to do something like that for our kids.

I think you should have a mural painted on that climbing wall wall so it really looks like a climbing wall, or the side of a mountain. Fun idea to do the climbing wall in the first place, I like the extra padding idea. The rope and swing sound fun too!

I think a really bright green would be fun. You could also do some horizontal stripes! I love that you are going to put in a climbing wall...How fun.

This is going to be such a fun room! I like the burnt orange Idea a lot, but if you want to go with a more conservative color I would suggest doing some earth tones. Greys, browns, darker tans and maybe ever darker greens. Sort of having it resemble the colors of mountains...then again, if your resembling Utah mountains, you can always stick with the orange.

I think going bold in this room would be fun! I love all the above suggestions. I would keep the colors on the lighter/brighter side since it is in the basement and a playroom! Can't wait to see it. Does Trent want to come to our house next?

Hmm. I think since it's in the basement, I'd lean towards the blue/gray like you mentioned, then accent in the burnt orange. I think it'll keep the basement lighter feeling (since they're traditionally not lit as well) instead of a solid orange that may make it feel darker. If you got with blue, I think a lighter blue?

I think the burnt orange would be a cool color for the climbing wall (it could be like Moab or somewhere). Otherwise, I think a moss green would be cool as an accent wall (Scharee tried one of my recommendations from Benjamin Moore/Pottery Barn - Jalapeno Pepper, for her playroom and was going to pair it with white beadboard to tone it down a little). You could ask her how that turned out. I think since it is a play room it doesn't have to be so "serious" so you should pick fun colors. Have fun ~ I can't wait to see it!!

And no, I haven't bought that template but may do it this weekend. I will let you know if I do.

I love the climbing wall idea. I'm no good at colors. My whole house is a light tan color, except for Kate's pink bedroom. So typical.
