Wasting Away...

Well, I posted too soon that our kids were better. Yesterday morning was good, but quickly turned bad by the afternoon. Paige threw up during her nap and Morgan threw up when we got her up. This morning I woke up to throw up and poop all over cribs. When I had the girls in the tub trying to scrub everything off their bodies I couldn't believe how skinny they looked. My kids have no fat on their bodies to begin with, so naturally, Paige and Morgan are starting to look like starved Ethiopians. I will be calling the Dr today, which I am sure there is nothing to be done but wait for this wonderful thing to work its course, but any suggestions she has would be great.

Now, I am asking all you mothers out there for advice. Is there anything your kids will keep down when they are sick? Has anyone tried anything like Pedialite (sp?)? I would take any advice there is....we are up to 15 loads of throw up laundry. I think we will go through a Costco tub of detergent this week alone. ;)

That's a hard one! I have no idea, I don't have any childern. My mom used to give us soda crackers and sprite. But that might have been more when we could keep food down us.

I'm so sorry that your kids have been sick. I hate that! My girls like those Pedialyte popsicles. I usually try to only give them a little at a time though if I'm not sure that they'll keep it down. It's a tough call. I hope everyone feels better soon!

poor things...how terrible. mclayne never liked any of the pedialyte flavors, but the popsicles sound like a good idea. what about a brat or abc diet for the diarrhea? at least that might take care of one end!;) hang in there!

BOOOO. I'm so sorry. I have no suggestions other than those given above. Avie has liked the Pedialyte popsicles and will usually eat Saltines and keep them down, but that's about it. Hope your Dr. can give you some ideas. And, I mainly hope YOU survive. You deserve a really great girl's night or date night or both after this! How awful!

I am so sorry...I hate the stomach flu...and the aftermath of laundry...I can only imagine in your spot! I usually do the sprite and soda crackers thing. My mother-in-law use to make jello juice--essentially making jello and feeding it as a drink before it sets up. She claimed the gelatin calmed the stomach! Good luck!

I am not a doc, but somewhere sometime I read that it's actually 7-up and not Sprite you want to use I don't know why, or what the difference is but there is one and supposedly it helps. Could be a fluke, ask your DR. Also, I learned through our own experiences that the poop part lasts longer than the throw up part, so once they can keep something down, yogurt is really good, cause they need to replace the "good" bacteria that their little bodies have flushed out. Good luck, I think right now the most important thing is to keep them hydrated.

Oh, Amy, I'm so sorry! I can't believe all that you've had to go through! The only thing I could think of, besides that already mentioned, is dry toast.

Sorry Amy, Little Brock had this about a month ago. It was aweful, laundry, laundry, and scrubbing everything, a million times, no fun! And when its a baby he's goona puke on me! Almost everytime, yuk! The dr told me not to worry about food at all, pedialite or gatorade, (he liked gatorade better) We almost had to get an iv to get him hydrated, luckily the throw-ups finally stopped. Then we just had to deal with the bum end for a few weeks.
Believe it or not I was thankful for at least that. The throw up was soooooo sad!
Also a priesthood blessing I believe is what finally helped him turn the corner. :) Good Luck

I'm so sorry to hear about the sicknesses. (Everyone in our house is sick right now as well. I feel your pain!!!) It's such a hard time of year when you have kids. It just gets passed back and forth and all around them. I have no advice for what kids keep down when they are sick. When mine are sick, they barf up everything they take in. I just kept giving him Gatorade and hoping that he absorbed some of it before he threw it back up. Good luck and I hope that things get better for you!!

I feel so of your pain, my kids and I just got over the vomit nightmare. When my kids are sick it seems like it last forever as well. To help my kiddos recover quicker I stick to the BRAT diet...Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. With sips of Sprite and a few soda crackers. They will not drink the pedialite but they will suck on the pedialite pops. I have to stick to this bland boring diet for 2-3 days and stay away from all milk products. I hope some of this helps and I hope you dont wake up to poop and vomit in the morning. loves Ü

Yuck, yuck, and yuck. I am zero help. I'll just have to refer to this post when I have a bazillion sick kids in the future and you can laugh at my misery and be happy that these days are over for you forever.

oh...man! this is way beyond not fair! i don't have any remedies. the only thing my doc said is liquid...whatever they will take. he did suggest and my kids seem to like room temp soda passed back and forth between two cups to take away some of the bubbles (or open and leave out...but i'm not that patient) just a couple of sips at a time every 15-20 minutes. sounds like you might be looking at rotavirus. yuck. my prayers are with all of you! i so cried when i read this post...and the comment about the blessing idea.

That totally blows. I have given my boys pedialyte. They seem to like it and it keeps them hydrated. Have you tried chicken broth or soup. My boys were really sick last year and that seemed to help a bit. Just try to keep them as clean as possible. That way the virus they have won't be able to survive. Sorry they are sick.

Oh Heavens. I'm so so so so sorry. There are very few things in life that I hate worse than throwup. I hope that by now, the kids are feeling better. The ONLY thing that I can get Daxton to eat when he is sick is Jello. Unfortunately, it makes for very colorful vomit. He won't touch the pedialite things though. Only Jello and sometimes gatorade. Good luck, you poor soul.
