Mush for Brains

We got the Wii for Christmas thinking it would help us survive the winter. It has indeed given the kids something to do. The boys mostly. They want to play it all. the. time. We decided to look on the Wii time log and see how long it was played on a particular Saturday. Wanna make a guess???

12 1/2 hours.

I am not joking. At all. And in my defense I was gone all day. And in Trent's defense he was working on the all important sound panels for our Theater room. After we came to the realization that we might be the worst parents around we decided to try and find some other things for our kids to do. Welcome the melting beads:

I used to love playing with these things when I was little. And the kids love them too. Aiden especially. He could do it for hours....maybe even 12 1/2. The bad thing is I have to be with them the whole time because of the hot iron issue. So, my kids may not be having their brains melted by the Wii as much, but I don't get anything done except bead crafting. But thats okay with me.

FINALLY! I don't even know what to do with myself when you don't update everyday (and somehow I missed your last Kilby Court post). Your blog template is darling, you're a good mom to do fun things with all those kiddos, and I don't think there is a thing wrong with 12.5 hrs spent on the Wii for a Saturday. It shows your kids are focused and have some stick-to-it-ness.

I don't think its so bad! We love our Wii :) At least their moving around when you play Wii games... Wii is fabulous in the sense that it helps with the looong winter...summer will be here soon!

Trent was telling us about the 12 1/2 hours of Wii. I think that's hilarious!!! My kids LOVE those beads too!

Amy, you are the funniest. I love this. I don't know how parents coped before technology. But it's always good to go back to basic, good ole fun like melting beads. My favorite is finger-painting. We do that quite a bit.

It must be a boy thing! My boys would play the wii all day if they didn't have to go to school! Sounds like I'll have to try those beads!

Avie totally loves those melting beads. She'd do them all day every day if I let her (and the only reason I don't is because Eliza throws them all over the house). You're totally fulfilling your "good mom" goal by letting your kids do them all day. I know how much time those things take! I'm not nearly as patient.

I used to love those things too. Where did you get them. I need something to keep my kids hands busy like that so they aren't getting into stuff they shouldn't. You should bring your kids over here sometime so they can play and you can have a break. Heaven knows you could use one every once in a while.

12 and 1/2 hours....I should really invest in one of those. I don't think anything has held my kids attention for that long. At least with the Wii they are getting some exercise...right?!

That's so funny! I totally know how that is though. Although my kids haven't played ours for 12 1/2 hours I'm sure they would given the chance! The longest ours have been on is 2 1/2 hours and that was Hannah and I playing Mario Kart! And the only reason we stopped was because I was getting sick!

I agree with Sara - the Wii is totally considered exercise in my mind!!

This is so funny. At least they are good at the games they play...after playing 12 1/2 hours you would at least hope for that.
