Counting Cheerios...

I am sure most of you have kids that love to count, I know mine do. This morning I was counting cheerios over and over wondering when I could stop without my kids freaking out. Sometimes I get so bored sitting here counting cheerios or what not, thinking what it will be like when my kids finally grow up and I can have some time to myself. It got me thinking….

Next I will be counting…

The steps it takes to get to preschool…
How many kids are in their kindergarten classes…
The number of soccer games and dance classes we have to go to…
How many times I have to do PTA functions…
The dollars we hand out for allowance…
How many times a note gets sent home with them…
The numbers on the padlock of their first locker…
The number of different rooms they will need to find at school…
The days until they get their drivers license…
The number of times they stall out our car trying to learn stick…
The number of times all five will fight over who gets the car…
The number of dances they will go to…
The number of tears after their first breakup…
The days to graduation…
The number of credits in their first college semester…
The miles between us when they are on their missions…
How many people they will date until they find the one…
How many people surrounding them when they are sealed…
The number of hours it takes to move them into their first homes…
The number of grand kids they give us…
The number of letters or phone calls we exchange…
The days in between visits from family…
The number of family reunions we can force into one year…
Our great grand kids…
All the moments that made up our life…
How many times I wish I could go back and relive every one of those moments.

I guess I shouldn't wish these times away and just enjoy counting the cheerios!

So insightful. I know I am usually wishing some says, or moments by. I guess I should enjoy them while I am in them. I don wonder why it is so hard?? I guess the Lord gave a our challenges for a reason.

Amy~ that is a really great thought. It really makes you stop and think about the moments. You sound like such a great mom and I am sure your kids love every minute they spend with you!

So true! One thing is for sure...once they start school, time flies!!! I remember my mom always saying how fast time went when we were kids and I never believed her until my kids started school. Now I know what she was talking about!

That was a really touching post. It is crazy how fast time flies. i still remember trying to hang out with you and Dayna when I was really little and it seems like yesterday. You have such adorable kids and from your posts, it looks like they get along so well. What a blessing!

Oh I liked this post. A while back Jill and I were talking about how funny it's going to be to watch all your kids running around the house trying to get ready for dances. I'm sure you'll be counting the minutes until they leave on those nights.

Cute post. And on a completely unrelated subject, where did you get those cute shirts the girls are wearing!?

Wow, Amy. That was really poetic. I teared up when you mentioned counting the miles between you when your kids are on missions. I guess it reminded me of my own, and being away from my family. It was so hard, but so worth it. Wow. Can you imagine Aiden and Andrew both gone on missions at the same time?

All those things you mentioned will probably be so different for you guys than most others because it will all happen so fast. IT makes me sad to think of them growing up. So yes, I'll stick to counting Cheerios with you.

I tend to always be thinking, "it will get better if I can just hold on until......(fill in the blank). Thanks for this post. It's good to be reminded to enjoy the present moments, as they are all we have. You are such an inspiration!
